Tone detection

When placing an outbound or inbound call, or a call transfer, Voice Platform can detect if the call is answered by a tone.

Supported tones are:

  • AMD (answering machine detection)
  • DTMF
  • Fax
  • SIT (special information tone)
  • TTY (teletypewriter)

Once a tone has been detected on outbound or inbound calls, the Voice Browser service throws an event that you must catch in your VoiceXML application. (The exception is for a DTMF tone, which is treated as a normal recognition request.) On call transfers, the application specifies the tones to detect on the far end. Once detected, the transfer terminates.
