Localizing your deployment

You can localize Voice Platform configurations to support any locale for which Nuance provides an associated language. This section describes the steps required to localize your Voice Platform configuration to support a specific language.

To localize Voice Platform, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Download and install the language for your locale (a language includes the resources used to support speech recognition for a specific locale, plus standard VoiceXML built-in grammars).
  2. Set the primary locale.
  3. Set the character encoding.
  4. Download and install a voice for your locale, if available (the voice provides TTS support for a specific locale).
  5. Localize the default system prompts.
  6. Localize the grammars for universal commands you want to support in your locale (an example of a universal is “help” or “cancel.”)

Steps 1 through 3 provide a significant amount of localized functionality with a minimum effort, allowing you to perform basic recognition features for your locale and get started developing or localizing applications for your locale. Steps 4 through 6 are required to provide fully localized functionality. The rest of this section provides detailed information on each of these steps.
