Uninstalling Speech Suite

Best practices:

  • Backup the configuration of each Speech Suite host before removing Speech Suite. This enables using the configurations in the future if you re-install Speech Suite elsewhere. See Backing up and restoring service configurations.
  • Use the installer to remove Speech Suite software. Do not use the Add or Remove programs tool in Windows, or the package manager commands (yum commands). When you remove the entire suite, you remove all components, languages, Vocalizer voice, and Dragon data packs. Only these items remain:

    Any components remain intact.

    Any components remain intact.

    Management Station

    The current Management Station login usernames and passwords, the mserver database, and the audit database (if created) remain intact. (If you re-install Speech Suite, you can reuse these databases.)

To remove Speech Suite:

  1. If not using Management Station, uninstall any services that run as Linux daemons before uninstalling Speech Suite. The Nuance Speech Suite installer will not remove services running as Linux daemons. For a list of services that can run as Linux daemons, see Starting services without Management Station.
  2. Log on to the host as root and change to /usr/local/Nuance/Speech_Suite/setup.
  3. Enter nuance-speech-suite -R

    If this command is not available, change to the installation directory (Nuance-Speech-Suite-version) and run:

    > ./setup.sh -R
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts.

  1. Use an Administrator account to remove Speech Suite with one of the following techniques:

    • Use the Windows Control panel—Select Nuance Speech Suite and remove the entire suite.

      Note: Never use the Control Panel to remove individual components. Always remove Nuance Speech Suite.

    • Use the Nuance Speech Suite installer—Run the installer and select Remove. (You must run the same installer version that you used for installation.)
    • Use the command line—Run this command to launch the Nuance Speech Suite installer and select Remove:
      > "Nuance Speech Suite version.exe" /remove
    • Use the silent command line—Run this command to remove Speech Suite silently, without any prompts:
      > start "" /wait "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{BE8C03C9-A24D-4A76-BF49-D864B3EB1291}\NuanceSpeech Suite version.exe" /silent /remove /runfromtemp /clone_wait

  2. If not using Management Station, uninstall any services that were installed on Windows as a service with one of the following techniques. The Nuance Speech Suite installer will not remove Windows services. For a list of services that can be installed on Windows as a service, see Starting services without Management Station.

    • Use the command line to remove each Windows service: 
      > sc delete servicename
      Where servicename is the name of the Windows service. For example, to remove Nuance vocalizer service, you would type: sc delete "Nuance vocalizer service"
    • Use the Add or Remove programs tool in Windows to remove each Windows service.
