Recognizer language packs

This section has describes Nuance Recognizer grammars, pronunciation guidelines for languages, and phonetic transcriptions (pronunciations) when creating or editing Recognizer dictionaries. Ignore this section when working with Dragon Voice and the Krypton recognition engine.

Grammar documents

Provided grammars describes how to work with the built-in grammar documents provided by Nuance. These include grammars defined in the W3C VoiceXML specification plus others defined by Nuance.

Pronunciations

The "art" of phonetic transcription can only be learned by actually doing it.

Strictly speaking, your transcriptions will neither be phonetic nor phonemic, but rather a mixture of both, since on the one hand they are too "broad" to be phonetic, but on the other hand there are also symbols for sounds without phoneme status. In this set of guidelines the terms "phonetic" and "phoneme," however, refer to the transcription method and the symbols used in our transcription.

Nuance recommends using native speakers to create transcriptions. This increases the quality of your lexica.
